Exciting Activities Planned for International Transpersonal Association (ITA)

Hello Colleagues,

I want to bring all of you up to date with the organizing activities of the International Transpersonal Association (ITA) Board of Directors. I am one of the two Board members from North America. Recent activities include:

1. The design and launching of a new ITA website (www.transpersonalassociation.com). Note links to Sofia University on the website. Board members have volunteered to coordinate blogs or newsletters on worldwide transpersonal topics and activities. I will take responsibility for soliciting news and announcements regarding research in transpersonal psychology and related sciences. Please let colleagues and students know about this international forum for transpersonal research. Guidelines for submissions will be forthcoming but for now think short, newsy, well-written submissions in English.

2. ITA can be described as an organization of organizations aligning with and supporting transpersonal organizations and activities around the world. The ITA Board includes individual transpersonal scholars from the world who represent transpersonal interests in their country or regional transpersonal associations. The European Transpersonal Association (EUROTAS, www.eurotas.org) is now the largest transpersonal association and has held a successful conference each summer or fall for many years. In addition, recent activities have included efforts to support the organization of a South American Transpersonal Association similar in structure to EUROTAS. One of our Board members will soon travel to China, meeting with our Board member in Beijing and other transpersonal scholars in China to begin talks about a Chinese Transpersonal Association.

3. Two international transpersonal conferences are upcoming and supported by coordinating efforts between EUROTAS, ITA, and ATP (https://www.atpweb.org/). What is known commonly as the Crete Conference (http://www.eurotas2014.com/en) in early October 2014 has been organized by the Hellenic Association for Transpersonal Psychology and Research. The theme of this conference is Metamorphosis—Disintegration, Integration, Conscious Living. The Portuguese Transpersonal Association, known as Alubrat (http://www.alubrat.org.br), had a successful pre-conference last month as advance promotion for the Brazil Conference to be held in September 2015 in San Paulo, Brazil. Locations and sponsorship for international transpersonal conferences to be held in 2016 and 2017 are now being discussed by the Board.

Please let me know if you have special interests in or suggestions regarding any of the activities above and I will relay them to the ITA Board. Thank you.

Rosemarie Anderson, Ph.D.

Professor, Sofia University
